William (Red) Whittaker

Red has pursued the vision of robotic exploration of the Moon for decades. He conceived IRIS and pioneered its technology. Red is a professor at CMU. He founded and chairs Astrobotic. Red is more broadly known as the father of field robotics. These are intelligent machines at work in the world. Field robots are revolutionizing farming, mining, construction, logistics, transportation and exploration. Red won the Urban Challenge driverless car race that ignited the burgeoning industry of automotive automation. Red is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He is the recipient of the Simon Ramo Medal, Columbia Medal, and Feigenbaum Prize among others. All he ever asked for was the Moon.
